CBRNE
While uncommon in Vermont on a large scale, there is unfortunately a history of items intended to cause deadly damage to be involved in, or the cause of, incidents. Such weapons are grouped under the CBRNE (chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear, or explosive) acronym. CBRNE items can range from a homemade pipe bomb to a large-scale weapon of mass destruction (WMD). Vermont has a variety of special teams that can respond to such incidents. These teams are highly trained and equipped, and so are only mobilized once threats have been evaluated. To request the assistance of a specialized team, contact the Vermont Emergency Management Duty Officer at 1-800-347-0488.
